A Thankful Wife (DIY Gift Idea)

Saturday, November 28, 2015
I woke up early on Thanksgiving morning and put this little gem together for the hubs before he woke up. We had already celebrated Thanksgiving with family a few weeks ago since he always works around the holiday, and really had no plans for the day. So I wanted to try and do something to make it a little special for just the two of us.

This was such a simple little keepsake that I was able to put together with materials I had on hand at home. For each page, I added a new reason for which I was thankful for this man I love along with a corresponding photo highlighting our journey throughout the years.

Once I finished making the book, I whipped up some breakfast for the two of us. Let it be known that I am no chef - but it is the thought that counts right? What man doesn't love a good classic breakfast sandwich? Did I mention I brought him this breakfast in bed? Extra brownie points, I think?

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families and took a moment to share with all of them why you are thankful to have them in your life. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Halloween At Home Date

Sunday, November 1, 2015
The mister and I started this tradition last year, and we had a blast, so we thought we'd see if we could get even more creative this time around. So what's this tradition you may ask?

Well making a haunted gingerbread house of course.

To begin we made a trip to the store to gather some festive goodies. Graham crackers (aka gingerbread) and frosting (I like the cream cheese kind as it's extra sticky) are a must. Beyond that you can get as crazy as you'd like with the home decor.

Once you have your fixings, you are ready to set up shop. We used a pizza pan as our base, but really any pan or plate will do. Also, to get us in a festive mood, the hubs took on the role of DJ and set up some Halloween jams.

To create the walls of the house, we spread a good layer of the frosting on the back of the graham crackers and adhered them to the box they came in. The box is the perfect size usually for a haunted home's foundation.

Then it was time for our favorite part - the details. We are talking windows, sidewalks, spooky pets and more. One of the family cats even received a new scarf!

Exquisite, right? It's move in ready folks. We are currently taking offers.

Hope everyone had a safe and HAPPy Halloween!

Converted Tea Lover

Monday, October 26, 2015
Flash back a few years, and I would have told you plain and simple, tea just did not suit my fancy. I had tried it here and there, without a very open mind I may add, and decided it was just not something that I desired or needed in my diet. Flash forward to the present and a few more years of wisdom, and I have changed my tune. I would now describe myself as a converted tea lover.

So what changed?

I realized many of the benefits that drinking tea provides. Did you know that tea contains antioxidants which may help reduce risk of cancer. It has also been shown to help our bones (ladies, you know we need this), reduce the risk of cardiovascular issues as well as acts as an anti inflammatory among other things. As one who values a healthy lifestyle, I was determined to give it another try.

I experimented with some different types and flavors and soon came to realize, I actually kind of like this stuff. I now love me a good cup of tea in the afternoon as the work day draws to a close. Particularly on cold days like those ahead!

Something I would absolutely enjoy as I continue on this tea-loving journey is a Tea Maker. And while I don't have one yet myself (something that may have to change here in the near future I think), I am excited to share that you my dear friends have the opportunity to potentially own one for yourselves for free. Some fabulous fellow bloggers and I have joined together for a giveaway of a Teavana Perfectea Maker. Coupled with that, the winner will also receive a Teavana tin filled with high-quality, loose leaf tea. This one's for tea-aholics and newly inspired tea converts such as myself alike all. The giveaway runs through November 6th. See details on the rafflecopter to enter.

How to buy Organic Without the Organic Price Tag

Saturday, October 17, 2015

Groceries at your door step without breaking the bank. Sign me up!

I don't know about you, but we try our best to eat and use the most nutritious foods and products in our household, but the price tag can sometimes be a bit of a killer. For a couple on a budget, sometimes it's tough to remind ourselves that the large dent made in our bank account each grocery trip is worth it. A few months ago I was introduced to Thrive Market. It has quickly become my favorite way to shop for organic groceries and beauty products.

Thrive Market is an online store that offers these natural products at wholesale prices. Their mission is to make healthy living affordable and accessible to all. You can shop by specific interest such as paleo, raw, vegan etc. or by the specific type of product you are looking for. They have everything from granola to coconut water to vitamins and deodorant. While they do not offer produce or frozen items, pretty much anything else you usually purchase is there and they are adding new things all the time.

Even better, they often send you free samples to try out new products as well. This last order, I received the chia and hemp seed packets and facial scrub below.

If you, like us, are a family striving for both a healthy lifestyle and a healthy bank account, I would highly encourage you to check out Thrive Market. Click on any of the links throughout this post to see what it's all about and earn 25% off as well. And while I am just a girl vying for a company I enjoy and am not directly being compensated for this post, each person who signs up helps our family earn money toward future grocery bills at Thrive as well. Happy Shopping (from your couch)!

Fall Farmer's Market Date

Sunday, October 11, 2015

This fine Sunday morning, the mister and I took the opportunity to embrace these fleeting days of blissful fall weather to head to our local Farmer's Market. We absolutely love perusing the aisles of the market for delicious local finds, and while we live incredibly close, the hustle and bustle of life doesn't allow us to get there as much as we would like. Thus today, it was time, and I woke the hubs up plenty early and told him we were going on a date.

Getting all of our produce at the market and planning our meal menu around what is in season is such a fun challenge for us. It encourages us to try and explore new foods and recipes, and we love seeing the variety of new items that each week brings.

Not to mention the colors of fresh foods and flowers are like no other. We love pointing out vibrant, large (see broccoli below) and interesting finds to each other as we walk along.

After we finished our shopping, we decided to head to brunch at a local restaurant around the corner from the market. This particular restaurant serves food made from local ingredients, many coming straight from the market themselves. It was a great way to top off our date and start our day off on the right foot - together.

Junk Bonanza

Saturday, September 26, 2015

This girl is (see above) after spending the morning at an event called the Junk Bonanza. This expo is an antique, shabby chic, vintage lover's dreamland, and I cannot believe it has taken me so long to experience this treasure-filled festivity myself.

Seriously friends, aisle after aisle of vendors and adorably unique finds. Being that many of these vendors are also local, it gave me an opportunity to get a sneak peek into a variety of shops in the area that I have no doubt I will be perusing again in the near future.

I am consistently amazed by people's ability to create, envision and repurpose, and I can't help but feel inspired after visiting events such as these. Yay for junk.

I was really hoping to find a distressed ladder that I have been wanting for awhile to add a little character to our living room and the expo did not disappoint. While I found a few other great little trinkets, this was by far my favorite purchase. Living room meet your newest addition.

Feel free to head to the Junk Bonanza website to see when it's coming to a city near you. Grab a girlfriend or two and your shopping legs and enjoy your day of treasure hunting!

5 Reasons to Build a Blanket Fort with your Spouse

Sunday, September 13, 2015

Mr. Happ and I were reminiscing the other evening about a time a few years back when we built a fort together out of blankets and pillows and spent the evening like two giddy children all huddled and cuddled inside of it. It got me thinking that not only is it time to scrounge our place for every last blanket, pillow, chair and table and do it all over again, but the reason I feel this way is because it was an enjoyable date for us for a variety of reasons.

1. As I shared above, building a fort brought back that nostalgia of childhood for us. You know, the days when the biggest challenge of the day was getting that sheet to stay put on that chair. Such simple pleasure.

2. Not only does building a fort bring you back to those childhood days, but it is a free date night. All you truly need is to get creative with items you already have on hand at home.

3. Building a fort together also gave us the opportunity to work as a team with a common goal. While this may seem like a silly and simplistic couple building exercise, it is still pretty gratifying to see the end result your created together.

4. Going along with #3, it also provides opportunities for problem solving and communication. When a wall starts to fall, you need an extra hand or the pillow pile just isn't quite squishy enough for your no longer 8-year-old bodies, you can determine as a pair how to fix the situation.

5. You get to hang out in it when it is done. This is by far the best part. Snuggle up, eat a late night snack, sip some wine, watch a movie or use your imagination.

Happy building.
