Countdown to the Big Day

Yes, it's true. We have reached double digits folks.
99 days until we are Mr. and Mrs.

Exciting and nerve wracking all at the same time.

As I am sure any one of you that has planned a wedding is aware, time flies, and there just always seems like there is something still to get done!

That being said, one of my favorite tools for assisting in the constant reminder that time is a flyin' is my handy lil' countdown frame. It was so incredibly simple to create, and one of the reasons I love it is that it can be personalized to meet any decor need!

So what do you need to create this little gem?
I made a stop at the ever-so-addicting Hobby Lobby to pick up the frame (they are always 50% off) and frame stand. I would highly recommend the frame stand as it serves as a nice holder for not only the frame, but the wipe on/off marker used to change the number of days each morning as well. Also, I think it gives it a bit more of an elegant touch.

The other item you will need is paper to coordinate with your frame. I printed out the template I created on ivory, cut it out and then backed it with black card stock to give it a more textured feel. You could do this, and/or simply print the template on the color of your choice and cut it to meet and fill the frame size. This specific template was created for a 5 x 7 frame size.
Grab your copy of the template here

Feel free to use it to countdown for weddings, vacations, birthdays, anniversaries, you name it-
and add a little charm to your table while you're at it!

A Year of Goals

At the start of this new year, I took some time to reflect and think about what I truly want to accomplish during 2014.

I already knew this year is going to be a year full of big life changes, new beginnings, and what I hope to be beautiful memories. But along the way, I want to make sure that those big things (and the stress that can sometimes ensue from planning them) don't overshadow those goals that I need to strive to accomplish daily to improve upon myself as well.

Thus, keeping these thoughts in mind, my list was compiled.

Here are my personal goals for 2014:

1.) Marry the man of my dreams.
I cannot wait to marry my handsome Mr. Happ this summer. I feel like the luckiest girl in the entire world to be able to spend my life with my best friend. I thank God each and every day for this blessing.

2.) New town/New place for the new couple.
Ryan and I have decided not to live together before we are married. Thus, we are beyond excited not only to be husband and wife, but also to find a new place to call our own where we can start building our lives together. Where we'll end up? - Stay tuned.

3.) Eat clean and stay fit.
I have really gotten into trying new recipes, new workout regimes and leading a cleaner healthier lifestyle over the past year. I want to make sure that I continue to do this not only to fit into that goal #1 wedding dress, but because the body, mind and soul are all interconnected. In taking care of my body and physical health, it will in turn, positively impact those other aspects of my life as well.

4.) Choose joy.
Amidst wedding planning, planning for our future, working full time, working out, cooking, cleaning, blogging...you know the drill...life gets really busy, and all too often alongside all of the craziness come these feelings of being stressed and overwhelmed. While I have my moments, I am truly trying to focus on choosing joy and seeing the opportunities for joy that each of these 101 things I feel that I need to accomplish each day bring. Let's be honest, when I choose joy, I tend to get all of it accomplished more efficiently, effectively, and en-joy-ably.

5.) Turn my "someday" into "now".
We had a wonderful sermon at our church at the beginning of this year about turning our "somedays" into now. All too often, we tend to put off those things that we know we "need" to do, but that might require some effort or change on our part. Not this year. Adios procrastination. This year, is my now.

6.) Thank God for my blessings each day.
God is good, all the time. He has given each of us this beautiful life we have and bestowed upon us countless blessings. Thank you God for blessing me much more than I deserve.

Now, while I like keep these six lofty goals hanging up for review as needed, I also find it helpful to keep constant, refreshing reminders of how I can work to achieve them each and every day.
Around my home, in places like my bathroom mirror, nightstand, refrigerator, outside door, etc. I have put notecards with scripture and ideas that inspire me and remind me of the "me I want to be" during this year and beyond.

What are your goals for 2014?
I encourage you to write them down, share them with others, and find other ways that work for you to hold you accountable for them.  Turn your "someday" goals  into "now" ones :).

A Belated V-day Brunch

So Ryan worked until 9:00pm on the actual "Valentine's Day", thus we decided to push back the festivities a bit and host a lil' Sunday brunch celebration and our own "day-o'-love" instead.

We started the morning with some brunch place setting prep.

He was such a good sport and really put some thought into his design.
He even decorated the handle.

Once our mugs were ready, we placed them in the oven for 30 minutes on 350 degrees so that they could set. I originally got this mug-baking concept from a variety of pins on Pinterest. I must say that as we held/washed out the cups a bit of the marker seemed to be rubbing off, so I think we will spring for some sort of top coat this week to preserve these beauties.

Next, it was meal prep time.
Every good chef must play the part.

Perfect fit ;).

So what did these two top chef's create, you might ask?
Love themed food, of course.

Heart shaped strawberry skewers: Simply chop off the tops, slice down the middle, and cut out a small triangle section from the middle top of each half.

Paleo apple cinnamon muffins: Find the recipe from "Everyday Paleo" here.

Spiced apple cider: Now I realize it's not fall (all I have to do is look outside at the heaping mountains of snow), however, neither of us are big coffee drinkers so I opted for this tasty, hot drink instead. I must say, tt made the whole house smell quite heavenly too. Get the recipe here.

And finally no day-o'-love brunch would be complete without heart shaped scrambled eggs. I was able to get a metal heart-shaped cookie cutter for 50% off at Walmart that we used to form these beauts. (Guess that is the nice thing about celebrating after the fact - everything's on sale!)

Finally, time to eat.
Aren't the roses gorgeous? My handsome chef had them sent to my school on Valentine's Day, and I must say they added a nice touch to our table.

Toast to a job well done!

A Getaway with the Girls

Time spent together with a best friend is like a little slice of Heaven on Earth.

I was lucky enough to be tucked away in a cabin with several of my best friends this past weekend for a little quality girl time and pre-wedding getaway. And let me tell you it was heavenly.

When you are younger, I think at times you take the moments you spend together with your girl friends for granted...like it will always be that way. As you get older, and life starts to change, you begin to realize that what once was a simple "let's get together at so & so's" turns into a "I'll have to get a sitter, drive for hours to reach you, get away from work and leave the hubby to his own devices affair".
A little more complex to say the least.

With that being said, I have learned to cherish these moments where we can all get together as we age, and I have an even deeper appreciation for these women as I know the planning and effort it entails to get away. It made our recent time together that much more meaningful.

My girlfriends definitely pulled out all the stops this weekend for the first of my "bride-to-be" activities. From adorable decorations, to delicious food (and drinks), to thoughtful gifts and fun-filled games, to updates on life, and above all laughter and love. This weekend had it all.

What a wonderful reminder of how blessed I am to have such beautiful ladies in my life.

Note the initials on my new mug :)!

Of course we did get out for one night :)

Thank you ladies for making this weekend so special.

The Journey Starts Here...

And so begins a new adventure...

As many of you already know, I have a teaching blog (The Second Grade Superkids), which is where this fascination with the "blog-o-sphere" and fun all began. I absolutely adore learning from and sharing ideas with others, and blogging has more than provided me with an avenue to do just this! And while I fully intend to continue with my teaching blog as a means of developing that aspect of my life, I often feel that there is this whole other side to me left unheard.

That being said...

(In addition to all of the uh-mazing educational blogs I check out each day)
I love perusing blogs that inspire me to strengthen my faith and my character. I love finding project ideas that motivate me to be creative and recipes that encourage me to pretend I'm on Top Chef. I love learning ways to lead a healthier lifestyle both inside and out and ways in which I can enjoy and spread joy to those around me. Most of all, I love to hear about the stories and lives of others in this great big world of ours. We can all grow and learn so much from one another.

And this, my friends, is why I have decided to start this blog. I'm excited to have a place to share my story. My hope is that this blog is a space that does all of those things that I have listed above for those who chose to follow along with me.

So why "Happy as We Know It"? Let me explain.
This summer, I will be marrying my best friend.
You may have noticed the HAPP of happy was bit emphasized. There was a reason for that ;).

My handsome man's (and my soon to be) last name is HAPP.
So this blog won't only be about my journey, but our journey.
I am incredibly excited to see where life takes us and equally as thrilled to be sharing in it with all of you.

This is our HAPPy as we know it.

Special thanks to Megan Favre @ A Bird in Hand Designs for my beautiful blog design and
